In addition to posting an image for each Project 52 assignment, there’s a live critique hosted by the Project’s founder, Don Giannatti, on VOKLE. Last night I watched the first one. The Assignment was: {What’s your Vision Statement as a photographer, and post one image that represents that vision.}
There were over 100 images and statements so Don didn’t discuss EVERYONE’S. But the main gist of his critique was to simplify, simplify, simplify. Given that, I’ve simplified my vision statement to: “I create art.” …which of course begs the question: What is art?
When does an image/photograph become art? Anyone?
Here are a couple of images for Week Three’s assignment: Still Life
Is it art? hmmm…
I’m so excited to see your blog in the “photography” flow on WP! These shots are spectacular! And, yes, they are art! You’ve asked a HUGE question: “what is art?” These still life images are art because of the artistic intent behind them, because of the thoughtful organization of shapes and shadows, the balance of light, texture, and colors, the creative and careful construction of the composition… When these forces do not go into the making of an image, it is not art.
